Centrifuge tests on axially loaded tapered piles with different cross-sections under compressive and tensile loading

The compressive behavior of tapered piles, particularly those with circular cross-sections, has been investigated during the last few decades. However, tensile such piles rarely studied in literature. In this paper, 12 static axial tests, comprising six and were performed on instrumented uniform cross-sections using a geotechnical centrifuge. Three had correspondingly circular, square, X-shaped along their length, while other three non-uniform (tapered), all which same length volume. results are presented main forms: variation load versus pile head displacement, distribution force unit shaft resistance length. Behavior is compared that cross-section piles. confirm superiority over terms load-bearing capacity construction costs under both loading.
